The Film: behind the scenes and more

Masks: check // Mates: check // GO!!

Emily: Her character is very delicate, but strong and ruthless in her
search for Michaela.



Michaela: has a character that is naive and later deceived, but determined

 to put things right.



Fran: She's the wolf in sheep's clothing (literally) very sly but good at
heart...in her own way ;)

And last but not least Steph, who arrived after the photos were taken but was a character that added an ominous and haunting presence in the film that subtly altered the decisions of each character.

After meeting in Emily's garden and taking a few pre-shoot photos, we headed down to the woods to film in this lovely weather. Luckily it was surprisingly quiet out, except for the odd dog walker or two, who seemed pleasantly surprised by the masks and such ;) I had some vague ideas of what I wanted the final film to look like, pieced together from day dreams I've had about surreal wanderings in the woods and in a way it overlaps with the focus in my current unit of work - the exploration of hostile environments.

Then what a better place to head to than the woods?

My main aim was to loosely follow a lost and found narrative, where the main character becomes separated from the other and both search desperately for one another until they are reunited at the end. But I've thrown in a few sub stories and the extra character or two, but I think like many films - it will be open to interpretation.

Big bad wolf anyone?

These pictures are only the half of it - I can't fully explain how magical the film is alongside the songs I've picked out so far. I've also cut 40mins of film down to 7 since last week and I'm beginning to piece together a short trailer that I will upload a while before hand. Hopefully I'll get that done before Monday, as Monday = the dreaded ART EXAM!!

Have you ever...

...had the urge to just do something spontaneous?

I have.

Quite a lot to be honest, sometimes I get the urge to draw, to dance or just try work out a little tune on my piano... but normally I never follow through (except when it comes to dancing, sometimes I don't even realise I'm doing it as I shimmy my way through college!).

This time however was very different.

This time I did something I actually wanted to do.

This time I made a film.

And not just any old film but a film with my best friends, who'd offered to help me out as an extended part of my art project. I wasn't too sure how I'd directly link this to my work but I just felt the need to make it. So last Thursday, while it was beautifully sunny (very rare in england!) day I met up with my friends in Emily's garden, which was the closest to the location we'd be fillming in. 

They had no idea what we we're about to do - which made me love them even more :') seeing as all I'd told the was to dress in something vintage. I had some rough ideas, along with various items including masquerade masks to give me some inspiration.

And away we went!

I got loads of great footage, and some hilarious stuff for the bloopers :') but I shall tell you more in detail alongside some of my favourite photos from the day in my following post.

1 Month later...

Whoa!

Foam ice-skating in france... as ya do :) ;)

Ok so it's been quite a while since I last blogged (a month to be precise!!) and a LOT has happened in this short space of time, a little too much to put in one post... or several follow up posts for that matter - but to give you an insight to what’s been going on I'll give you a quick summary ;)

I spent a week in France with my exchange partner Célia and I absolutely loved it!

Yum!

I stayed in a picturesque little town not far from Le Mans and there was literally a patisserie or chocolatier on every street. It took a while getting used to the French way of greeting people with the cheek kissing - but it was all part of the experience. The weather was very English though, but that didn’t stop us having an amazing time.  

That week out was a great break but when I got back I felt like I was more than a week behind in work at college. But the trip had helped me prepare for my speaking exam, which I think went pretty well.

 

Then my friend Ashley and I took on a video project to create a video for some business students who have designed an app for car sharing in big cities that has won them a spot in the finals in Hong Kong!!

...No pressure aye?

So this has been a side project which I’m still adding the finishing touches to, alongside working on the prep for my Art exam in a few week time!!

I’ve also made my choices for university now, having De Montfort as my first choice for graphic design, but I shall blog more on that later – promise.

Adventures in Falmouth - part two!

After some  much needed sleep I'm back with the second part of my 'Adventures in Falmouth' post.

After our visit to the shore line my dad and I headed into the town, and the road was soon replaced by a network of cobbled streets and small alleys. These alleys were nothing like the dark and dismal ones found in towns and cities but they were made up of white stoned pathways that lead off to local pubs and cafés.

I took a picture of a rather inviting café called the 'Rumbling Tum Café' but with much to see we didn't have a chance to pop in...



I came across this lovely store in a small arcade I was passing and they had clothes from every era!





Not to mention books upon books!



We even had time to check out the local art gallery!!! They were running the 'masters of photography' exhibition and sharing a love of photography my dad was just as keen smyself have a look :)



This really freaked me out at a glance I thought there was really an old lady sat in the corner :/

 


This was my favourite piece in the exhibition as the colourful surreal scenario stood out against the surrounding black and white photographs.

Heading back to the town- we decided it was time to grab something to eat before we headed home and what better to grab from a sea-side town...

University College Falmouth

 This was the earliest start to end all early starts! For my final interview in Falmouth my dad and I set off at 1am . . . -_-

The journey down went by very quickly (seeing as I kept falling asleep) but we knew we were in cornwall once we'd left the big cities behind and hit the fresh seaside air.

The walk down to the campus was like heading into a mini jungle as more and more leafy/ tropical looking plants sprung up at either side. I met two girls from essex in my interview both (as I was glad to see) had a hefty A1 portfolio like myself :)

After a introductary talk about the course and a tour of the immediate facilities we we're left to wait. I don't like waiting but I soon got chatting to these girls from essex and the time soon went. The interview itself went even quicker! I think it was because my portfolio had been viewed seperaty by two tutors before I had a one to one with a different tutor. It was a different style of interview and the interviewer had a really good poker face so I left not being able to judge how it went. But I had plenty of time to think of that later as I had remebered my camera! Which means I can share with you a brief insight into my adventure in Falmouth ;)

This picture doesn't quite do this scene justice as the sun was just begining to shine as the wind died down. And the sea looked so blue!
