Here are some remarkable photos I came across from a huge series documenting the most shocking, political and heart-warming moments of 2011. Here are just a few of my favourites:
1.A fisherman arranges a net as his wife paddles their boat in the waters of the Periyar river on the outskirts of the southern Indian city of Kochi on 5 January.
2.Orich Florestal (left), 24 and Rosemond Altidon, 22, stand on the edge of their partially destroyed apartment in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the week marking the first anniversary of the earthquake that killed around 250,000 people and wrecked much of the capital in 2010.
Researchers dressed in panda costumes put a panda cub into a basket before transferring it to a new living environment at the Hetaoping Research and Conservation Centre for the Giant Panda, in Wolong National Nature Reserve, Sichuan province, China. Researchers wear panda costumes to ensure that the cub's environment is devoid of human influence.
A woman pretends to be gagged while taking part in a protest during International Women's Day in Mexico City. The writing on the woman's chest reads, 'neither a whore, nor crazy, nor a saint, just a woman.'
A wave caused by a tsunami flows into the city of Miyako from the Heigawa estuary in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, after the magnitude 8.9 earthquake struck the area.
Police officers are splashed with paint in Oxford Street, during a protest organised by the Trades Union Congress, called The March for the Alternative, in central London.
Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, watched by bridesmaids Grace van Cutsem (left) and Margarita Armstrong-Jones, after their wedding in Westminster Abbey in London.
US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, along with members of the national security team, receive an update on the mission against Osama bin Laden in the Situation Room of the White House. Also pictured are Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
US President Barack Obama toasts with first lady Michelle Obama in Ollie Hayes Pub in Obama's ancestral home in Moneygall, Ireland.
Two-year-old chimpanzee DoDo bottle feeds milk to Aorn, a 60-day-old tiger cub, at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo on the outskirts of Bangkok.
Celebrations have already begun don under as this last picture shows the spectacular firework displays that took place 5 hours ago in Sydney!
So here's saying goodbye to 2011 and BRING IT ON 2012!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
